A-level is a study program of two - four majors in a specific specialty; in-depth study lasts for two years. An alternative to A-level program is Scottish Highers program, preparation for which takes half of the time.
International Baccalaureate is one of the most famous international programs officially adopted in more than one hundred countries. It has a broader framework than the national program of A-level: the required part of IB program includes six courses,whereas three of them are studied in depth,and the other threeat a standard level. Upon completion of the program, students write a four thousand words essay.
The structure of higher education system in the UK is the same as in the majority of European countries. The first step is to obtain a bachelor's degree - usually a three-year program. Master's degree is awarded after the completion of an additional program, which in the majority of the UK universities takes one year. Finally, the last stage is PhD degree. The UK universities have individual PhD program which may take about four years. To complete it one needs to write a thesis based on own research project.
