About Thailand
The Kingdom of Thailand is located in the south-western part of Indochina Peninsula and the northern part of Malacca Peninsula. It is bordered with Laos and Cambodia on the east, with Myanmar on the west and with Malaysia on the south. The name (the word “Thai” means “freedom”) is quite justified: Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia, which has preserved its independence from European countries, while all neighboring countries were colonies of France or Britain. “Thailand” (Thailand) is a Germanized version of the country's name, introduced in the 1930 s meaning "the country of “Thais”. The thai version of the country's name sounds like “Prathet Thai”.
